Last March 19, 2016, Philippines is one of the countries who join the annual event of the world's largest advocacy in saving Mother Earth. Here in the Philippines SM Cares support the campaigns and all 56 SM malls in the Philippines and 7 SM malls in China have participated in the global celebration of Earth Hour. Lights were shut off from 8:30PM to 9:30PM simultaneously.

It is indeed one of the largest environmental initiatives that encourage everyone to do their share in caring for our planet. During the event, SM Cares, supporting communities, guest and ambassadors of WWF gathered together for one commitment.

I am very much delighted to be part of it. There are amazing performers who dance with LED light on their costume and the girls who dance and beating the drums are very spectacular. Ms. Anne Curtis sing a song entitle Let it go from the movie Frozen.

It was nice to celebrate an occasion like this where you can meet new friends and enjoy the night full of fun and surprises. You will never know what will happen in the future so let's protect our planet and participate in the event like this.

I remember, Ms. Anne Curtiz says, "We should protect Mother Earth because our children will live here in the future." Those words are so true. Like Ms. Anne Curtiz, we must help in our own little way. small deeds today bigger and brighter future soon!

Did you know that 1 out of 4 people are at risk of anemia? Anemia, caused by iron deficiency, can greatly impact a person’s physical and cognitive performance thus affecting the overall work productivity.

In the Philippines, Merck Inc., through the country’s leading iron supplement brand for adults, Sangobion IRON+, has made it its mission to spread awareness for anemia so that more Filipinos can be aware of the condition. In fact, the World Health Organization revealed that between 20 and 39.9% of women in the country aged 15-49 years suffer from anemia (The Global Prevalence of Anaemia in 2011, authored by the World Health Organization).

“A significant number of Filipinos, particularly women, are affected by anemia and don’t even realize it. We expect that this campaign will encourage them to be more conscious of their blood health, and take the necessary steps to fight anemia so they can go about each day in winning form.”

- Debbie Go, Merck Inc. Philippines Head of Marketing, Consumer Health

The launch of the new campaign, “Win Your Day” establishes Sangobion IRON+ as the blood health expert that talks about the 5 signs of anemia—tiredness, sickly (due to a weak immune system), paleness, distractedness (lack of concentration), and dizziness—and how to prevent or overcome them in order to Win Your Day.

The highlight of the campaign is the “Win Your Day” TV commercial and music video, starring Sangobion IRON+ Brand Ambassador Sarah Geronimo. Also featured in the video are the Anemix Girls: five women who were able to overcome their anemia with the help of the organic iron supplement.

They are fondly known as Tired Ellaine, Sickly Paula, Pale Sheena, Distracted Princess, and Dizzy Apple.

Selected through a series of Sangobion IRON+ activities that took place over several months last year, the girls went through several tests of physical energy, including a karaoke challenge. Armed with golden voices and the eagerness to win their day, the five stood out from hundreds of candidates and proved to be the perfect companions of Sarah G. in the music video.

When people hear the popular Tagalog phrase “Walang Forever” (there’s no forever), they would either laugh out in “kilig” (romantic excitement) or simply shrug their shoulders or raise their eyebrows in disbelief.

But in sustaining relationships, it’s really about trust and open communication between the partners when trying to keep the love alive. More than this it's also about having spontaneous fun, maintaining an unbelievable amount of humor but more importantly, keeping yourself beautiful, youthful and ageless.

And this is what HyC150 does,  the potent anti-aging supplement that is today's fountain of youth. It offers what others cannot—provide you with active energy, health, vitality aside from ageless beauty you yourself won’t believe until you’ve tried it. There are other nutrients in this award winning potent  “fountain of youth” that are equally important and should not be ignored. Elastin, for example, a highly elastic protein found in the body’s connective tissue, helps maintain skin flexibility and elasticity.

Vitamin C, on the other hand, is the main antioxidant that helps protect the body from infection and provides it with a stronger immune system. Ubiquinol helps boost energy and has anti-cancer properties.   It helps block various harmful toxins from entering our bodies. It fortifies blood vessel walls, nerve tissues, organ linings against pollution’s injurious effects, nourishment despite an unhealthy and poor diet, and of course the normal ageing problems.

Microwave ovens are one of the kitchen’s best time savers. These versatile home partners are great for heating and cooking, making them a great catch for those who are always pressed for time when it comes to their meals.

But for all its perks and conveniences, this home appliance has always been stuck in the “safe or unsafe” debate. Some believe, for example, that heating or cooking meals in a microwave oven breaks down the nutrients in the food. The most troubling claim is that this home appliance leaks harmful radiation exposure which can lead to cancer.

But are microwave ovens really dangerous to our health?

A closer look at available evidence shows a lack of scientific foundation behind these claims. In fact, according to Dr. Anthony Komaroff in an interview about microwave ovens with the Harvard Health Letter, the house appliance actually uses one of the least likely forms of cooking that damage nutrients.

Any form of food preparation breaks down nutrients since heat breaks down their chemical structure. That means the longer you cook something, the more their nutritional value is compromised. Since microwave ovens cook faster than the conventional kitchen appliance, it can actually preserve more nutrients in your meal.

In terms of radiation and cancer, people believe that the electromagnetic waves from microwave ovens can mutate their DNA. However, these waves have a different effect on humans, and it all points to the way these home partners work.

Understanding the microwave

Microwave ovens function by generating electromagnetic waves. Its heating mechanism is powered by the oscillating electric field which transfers their kinetic energy into the molecules of food. The concentration of hundreds of watts into these molecules is what enables this appliance to heat anything quickly.

The premise behind the belief that microwave ovens can cause cancer is that the wave they produce is also an electromagnetic wave similar to X-rays, which can cause cells permanent harm if they are overexposed to it. However, X-rays move faster than microwaves, with the latter’s wavelengths a billion times shorter than the former.

Therefore, the only way that a microwave oven can actually cause harm is if someone is exposed to it at immense amounts to the point that the body temperature rises. This can only happen if someone is to be squeezed inside the microwave itself.

A helpful kitchen partner

Going beyond the myths concerning the health hazard of this home partner, microwave ovens can be easily considered as one of the most efficient and time-saving parts of a kitchen. Global domestic appliance distributor Midea Philippines, for example, offers digital and mechanical microwave oven
models that can prove to be worthy additions to any home.

In addition to their time-saving potential by providing quick, hot meals, Midea’s Microwave Ovens are also designed to provide a healthy way of cooking. They retain nutrients in food, and cook with 10% less fat versus the conventional frying.

Moreover, these Microwave ovens are also very friendly to the budget with their energy-efficient feature. The models from Midea have a “Piso Meal” capacity that lets you spend only Php1 for every 3 minutes of cooking.

Promote harmony at home by looking for partners that suit your lifestyle. A reliable kitchen investment should be efficient in all the right aspects, whether it’s performance, cost, or safety.
