One of the largest chains of fitness clubs for women is celebrating their 25th year. It was out of the blue when I get invited to the event. I, together with the other blogger friend didn't even get to witness their flash mob dance of Curves Bonifacio Global City Team because we are all late.

 However, we still get a chance to participate in their other activities. They have Zumba which I joined for 45 minutes, they have raffles, exciting games, product samples from sponsors and of course the best part of it is the learning where there's a short talk about breast cancer.




It just actually a preview to what will happen to their upcoming events which is the Breast Cancer Awareness this October.



I join their games and it was totally tough, 25 times fulling the thing with your feet is a no joke. We loss the game but it was fun. I also won something during the raffle and got a chance to take home some freebies from their sponsors.

 It was a day to remember and to cherish. Kudos to all members and coaches of Curves Bonifacio Global City!

Have you ever felt something like numbness, muscle weakness, and pins and needles? If so, you are experiencing Neuropathy. Its actually the symptoms of nerve damage and most of us did not mind it and even it was often, most sufferers do not seek medical
advice.
So what exactly is Neuropathy?

 Neuropathy, a disorder affecting nerves, which is experienced by many people in the Philippines. Despite this high frequency, many men and women who have it are not even aware of their condition. In fact, nerve health is not a topic that many people actually think about.

- Loss of sensation, and
- Reduced sense of touch.

 There are also a number of conditions in which nerve damage appears or can be a secondary complication. Causes and risk factors are multiple and include causes and conditions such as genetics (a family member suffers from Neuropathy), chronic diseases (like diabetes), environmental toxins (such as smoking), alcoholism, nutritional deficiencies (including B Vitamin deficiency), and even side effects of certain medications. This condition can be
idiopathic (have no known cause).


The Neuropathy Awareness

This month of July is the celebration of National Wellness month and Robinsons Supermarket celebrates a month long celebration as they call it Wellness Festival. This is their third leg of its year long route to Wellness journey as they do this annually with Filipinos.

 The kick-off of the festival was held at Eastwood Central Plaza last June 23 to 25 and hosted by TV host, Robi Domingo. On April 23, 2017 marks another of raising the public’s consciousness about environmental issues and health and fitness for National Geographic, which celebrates its eighth straight year of holding Earth Day Run. Presented by the channel and its partners Cherifer Premium and World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Day Run 2017 aims to continue the tradition of being one of the biggest running events in the country, expecting scores of running enthusiasts and Eco Warriors to register and run for the environment. The event will be held not only in Manila but simultaneously in the cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Taichung, an initiative that was adopted last year and effectively spread the vision and advocacy of Earth Day Run across Asia.

At Earth Day Run 2017, National Geographic will be celebrating eight years of social awareness through fitness with special program features using the hashtag #8withEDR. With the hopes of mobilizing all the Eco Warriors of previous Earth Day Runs, this year’s event welcomes all previously registered participants with VIP treatment and special loyalty perks to be enjoyed on the day of the run. Participants from previous Earth Day Runs will be given priority placement in front of the starting line at the beginning of the race and can claim their loot bags and finisher shirt at a special express booth. They can also make use of a special warm-up and cool down tent before and after the race to condition themselves and recover in comfort.



This year’s new participants can also join in the celebrations for Earth Day Run’s eighth anniversary by visiting the 8 Years of EDR Gallery at the race village and learning about what the event has accomplished over the years, including the environmental and social initiatives it has benefited with the help of its registered runners. The event encourages and welcomes all types of Eco Warriors to take part, from fun-runners of all ages to the serious marathon runners who regularly compete. This year, Earth Day Run will also be sporting new features for its runners. As a special treat, all race kits will come with LED shoelaces, serving as a badge of pride and as a safety precaution for Eco Warriors running at night or before sunrise. Last year, Earth Day Run participants ran to benefit such causes as saving the Irawaddy dolphins at the Malampaya Sound Research and Conservation Project in Palawan; giving the Earth Hour or “Gift of Life” village in Monreal, Masbate sustainable solutions that reduce carbon footprint; conservation of the Marine Protected Area and coral reef in Apo Reef in Occidental Mindoro; and beefing up reforestation efforts in the Ipo Watershed in Bulacan, which supplies Metro Manila with fresh water. Registered runners at Earth Day Run 2017 will not only experience a fun day of outdoor fitness by joining this year’s event, but will also be doing their part in contributing to National Geographic’s environmental efforts.

 How's everything after the holidays? I'm so glad to be back on the blogging circulation. This is my fist blog for Get Beauteous this year and I would like to discuss about us... Women and UTI.

 If you are asking me what is the connection of the two, well then, read this post all the way down for you to understand what I mean. Most health conditions affects men and women. However, there are certain illness that are more common in women.

 From sexually active women to pregnant women and up to menopausal women are all prone to illness and one of these is Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).

 So, what is Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

 It is more common in women. Those suffering from UTI experience pain or burning when urinating, as well as, pain, pressure or tenderness in the area of the bladder. When the infection reaches the upper urinary tract, symptoms may include back pain, chills, fever, nausea and vomiting.

 As I was saying, Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is the most common extra-intestinal infectious disease entity in women worldwide with a high prevalence and frequency of recurrence. It was estimated that up to one-third of all women will experience at least an episode of UTI during their lifetime. It makes the female anatomy to  be more problematic.

 How did UTI Occurs?

 It occurs when bacteria enter the urinary tract through the urethra, which is the tube that connects the urinary bladder to the genitals and transports and discharges urine outside the body. Women has shorter urethra compared to men that allows the bacteria to reach the bladder more easily. Female urethra is just one and a half inches long; in contrast the male urethra measures eight inches in length.

 Another factor is the close proximity of the urethral opening to the vagina and anus, both of which serve as fertile environments for bacteria. Because the urethra is in front of the vagina, bacteria near the vagina can be pushed into the urethra during sexual intercourse. This is why UTI is more prevalent among sexually active women. UTI tends to occur in women when they begin having sex or engage in it 
more often.

 While during pregnancy, a woman is at even higher risk of contracting UTI. Hormones cause changes in the urinary tract which predisposes a pregnant woman to infections. Add to this the growing uterus which presses on the bladder, preventing the complete emptying of urine. Some urine may then pool in the bladder. Germs (bacteria) are likely to multiply and cause infection in a stagnant pool of urine.

 Menopausal also increases the risk of getting a UTI. During menopause, the level of the female hormone estrogen decreases. This decrease can cause changes in the tissues around the urethra that can lead to a UTI. Advanced age, which usually coincides with menopause, also has various debilitating effects on the pelvic area organs and tissues.

 Most urinary tract infections start in the lower urinary tract made up of the urethra and bladder, it can lead to a kidney infection if left untreated. Bacteria that have infected the bladder may travel to the upper urinary tract made up of the ureters and the kidneys.

 A lower urinary tract or bladder infection usually causes pain or burning when urinating. There is a frequent urge to urinate though only a small amount is passed. Urine may look cloudy and smell foul or 
unusually strong. There may be pain, pressure, or tenderness in the area of the bladder. In upper urinary tract infection, symptoms may include back pain, chills, fever, nausea and vomiting.

 What is the treatment for UTI?

 Urinalysis is performed to initially determine if there is an infection. A urine sample is studied in the lab for presence of white and red blood cells and bacteria. If either of these is detected, the patient may have UTI. The urine sample may be grown in a culture to know which bacteria are present.

 As treatment for UTI, antibiotics are usually prescribed. The problem here is that the frequent intake of antibiotics to treat UTI, as for recurring infection, can lead to side effects such as liver disease. Also, patients who repeatedly take antibiotics for their UTI eventually develop resistance to the medication as the bacteria build their resistance over time.

Procter & Gamble and Robinsons Supermarket Join Forces with Mothers to Further Strengthen Their Advocacy of Wellness. 

 What happens when mothers come together to celebrate their personal advocacy of wellness? A Wellness Moms Movement emerges- a movement of change by mothers rallying as one for a better and healthier lifestyle.

 Celebrity mothers and special guests were present during the official launch of Wellness Moms by Procter & Gamble and Robinsons Supermarket held recently at Marco Polo Ortigas, where different aspects of motherhood—Baby, Family/Household, and Personal Wellness —were openly discussed by celebrity mom guests Denise Laurel, Nikka Martinez-Garcia, and host Issa Litton during the talk show that highlighted as well P&G’s own wellness products and how they fit into one's life.
